Playa Coco, Costa Rica

Playa del Coco, or Coco Beach, is quite popular with the country’s younger crowd.  It’s also a favorite among partying tourists, making it one of the more lively beach destinations in Costa Rica.

Situated in a horseshoe-shaped bay, it offers white-grey sand and blue-gray waters, in contrast with the blue-green that’s normally seen in the area.  The beach stays pretty crowded, especially during late November and December when many locals come there on holiday.

The town center has plenty of restaurants and bars, as well as casinos and discos.  There are also a number of shops and supermarkets, although most look rather rundown compared to the more luxurious amenities found elsewhere along the northern coast of the Guanacaste region.  As a result, most things in Playa del Coco are also more affordable.
